Artisan butcher at Coopers Beach Butchery

A New Zealand award winning butcher has taken over the Coopers Beach Butchery, bringing his artisan expertise to the North.

Gavin Cameron and his wife, Marisa, have moved to Northland after recently living in Wellington. For Marisa it is a return to her Northland roots.

Gavin started out as a butcher more than 25 years ago, where he trained in a Maori trade training course, in what was the last of the Trade Training Apprenticeship Government schemes in 1996.

Since then he has honed his butchery skills, leading multi-site Butchery Deli operations in Auckland and Wellington. During this time he was a member of teams that won awards for Best Ham, Bacon and Sausages in New Zealand.

“I’ve just started making the sausage that I won the award for and the first batches will be on the shelves in our Butchery at Coopers Beach.”

Gavin says an Artisan Butcher can offer specialities that are not available anywhere else.

“Each butcher uses their creativity and takes the time to come up with something special.”

Gavin is looking forward to building on the family business with the support of the locals and his great team. He would like to thank everyone for their support thus far and the warm welcome they have received from the community.

With beaches of luxurious caramel and white sands inviting you to swim, snorkel, fish and sail it’s not hard to see why we are based in what we call a slice of paradise in the Far North.

The local community is another reason why we are proud to call Coopers Beach home and we are always keen to give back to the local community that supports us.

Sometimes that’s as simple as lending a hand or even some prime steaks and sausages to help local organisations and charities and sometimes it’s a little more involved and we are always happy to talk to groups looking for support.
